Many of us are finding that we just don’t have enough storage space. We seem to accumulate so much stuff, and there never seems to be enough space to store it. As our family expands, our kids accumulate stuff too, so there is an always increasing need to find more storage space.

Our family needed more space to keep our firewood. Before the kids came along we used the garage, but soon that space was taken up with bikes, skateboards and other items and it became too small to store all the extra junk we had…it was even getting too difficult to fit the car in! It was definitely time to make more space.

Storing the firewood we would need during the cold months ahead became a priority once winter started getting closer.

My wife looked at some shed plans online and we both realized that it would be a cheap and easy solution to our problem to constuct a small lean to shed from some plans she found. What I liked most about this lean to shed plan was that it could fit right up against the wall near our back door and I could build it out of similar materials to the house so it looked great. This meant all the firewood wuld be nice and close to the house, right where we needed it most. No more braving the snow and wind to bring in the firewood!

My family has been really happy with the extra storage, and now I can easily fit the car in the garage again. I really enjoyed learning how to build a shed plus I saved a lot of money doing it myself. As long as you spend time on the planning and preparation, it’s not difficult building your own shed, and the satisfaction you get from it is very rewarding. My eldest wants a couple of new surfboards next, so I think I might have to build another lean to shed before we run out of room in the garage again!
