Making sure you home is safe should be a top priority. You can provide protection for your home with some basic house improvements. Here are just a few ideas.

Install new locks on your windows and doors. Many older locks are not very strong and should be replaced. If your windows, especially second story windows, do not have locks on them make certain to add some. Make certain all doors to the outside have dead bolts.

Trim all hedges that may get in the way of you seeing the area around your home properly. None of your windows or doors should have anything in front of them to block your line of sight. Make certain that all entrances and exits can be seen clearly.

When going on vacation remember to keep your home looking occupied. Ask a trusted family member or friend collect your mail or newspapers. Park your car in the driveway, and hire someone to come and mow your lawn.
